Oncology Massage is at the forefront of complementary modalities used to comfort and heal those who are experiencing cancer treatment or are in survivorship. With an ever-increasing prevalence of cancer in all age groups it is certain that people living with cancer will find their way to your tables. The purpose of this class is to present essential information and provide the necessary hands-on experience to safely and effectively administer massage to any client regardless of their condition. The culminating activity of the class will be to give a relaxation massage to someone with a history of cancer.

2012 : Completed Professional Training

PROFESSIONAL TRAINING : Structural & Energetic Integration
September 2012 : w. Blake McLemore & Randy Cummins
Please join Blake McLemore and Randy Cummins in a one-day exploration of physical movement and energetic awareness . . . a mindful approach of self-awareness and applied therapeutic techniques to help inform and support the client and therapist alike. Our body is a topographical map of all past experiences and somatic reactions. The continual rigidification of the body serves to limit the range of emotional flexibility. We will work to: UNBLOCK AREAS OF TENSION, STRENGTHEN POINTS OF VITALITY, ENCOURAGE SOURCES OF PERSONAL GROWTH.  The Blending of Feldenkrais & Shoshin Shiatsu : Together we will be creating a stillness in which the whisper of the heart can be heard.

Blake will lead students through a series of movement lessons to increase the quality of neurological (brain) mapping of the parts of us we are most generally “disconnected” from. How can one move with more ease and healing if one is not aware fully of how one moves?…In these lessons, the student will gain amore connected awareness of brain/body communication, learn how to move with more ease, and will have the likely opportunity to discover something new about themselves. Randy will demonstrate and guide the group through a series of Shoshin Shiatsu techniques to support and free the musculature around the relevant energetic pathways of the upper body.

This training is open to everyone.  Massage Therapists receive 7 CUEs.
Investment $120 : Registration Required by 9/8

PROFESSIONAL TRAINING : 6 Month Thai Training Diploma Program
April-August 2012 : w. Paul Fowler of the Chicago School of Thai Massage
What sets Chicago School of Thai Massage apart is that we believe Thai massage is not something you learn in a weekend, or even a week or two. It is an amazing and challenging practice that requires time, energy, and patience. In other words, it requires commitment. We are looking for students who will uphold the integrity of the practice by committing to a six month, in-depth program of study. CSTM’s trademarked six month diploma program defines our school. Everything we do, from community service to student clinic to continuing education, is based around this program. We have spent a lot of time thinking about how to design a program that gives students the kind of rich, multi-layered experience that we believe this practice requires. When students graduate from the program, they have solid base of experience in everything from Thai theory and practice to anatomy and even career planning skills.  We don’t shy away from the spiritual aspects of the practice as we believe personal understanding and growth are necessary to becoming truly conversant with the body.  We like being in close contact with our students for the extended time period so that we can constantly correct, refine, and help students navigate the real life challenges that come up. Monitoring and mentorship are key components to the success of our school. We have designed it as a one weekend a month program so that after each intensive weekend, students have 3 or 4 weeks to practice what they learned before they come back again. This way, learning spirals in both breadth and depth. Each weekend students return, they have come a little further in their understanding, and then can be moved to the next level. One of the things our students like about the program is the community and relationships that are built during the six months in the program. The teachers are there for that entire time to offer advice, encouragement and feedback. Students often practice outside of class with other students who are also going through the program. They connect to the larger community and share their learning with others through the community service activities. And finally, they work with the general public in a supervised setting through the student clinic. The six month diploma program provides space to grow personally and professionally, learning more about ourselves, and engaging in the amazing practice of Thai massage.
